I aspire  to compose images that communicate from my spirit to yours: for that, I believe, is the essence of art.

All of my compositions begin life in my imagination and are extensions of it.  My compositions are created on, but not by, a computer. Fractal art is not painting with a digital brush and it is not the manipulation of an existing image.  It is a unique medium where the starting point for a composition is natures own geometry.

Using software specifically designed to work with fractal equations I begin with the selection of a formula and the tuning of any and all of its parameters.  For example, since the rough textures/forms of a cloud can be defined by a fractal equation then by working with the same equations I can create and manipulate a cloud-like element for my image. Each of the elements in my compositions is created individually. As a direction and flow is established, creation becomes a collaborative work between me and the piece.

Throughout the process; layers, coloring, and parameters are; added, removed, merged, replaced, or revised.  These different elements are blended together to create my final composition. And, like the different instruments in an orchestra, each layer provides its own harmonics and contextual depth, combining to infuse the final piece with life.

In contrast to the process of taking a high-res photo or scan of an original image and blowing it up – which introduces limits to the reproduction size – my completed original is actually the formulas and parameters that describe the image.  When rendering a composition for printing every dot is calculated precisely.  This could be ~48,000+ for an 8x10 or ~1.2 million+ for a 40x50.  This is where a computer comes in handy and why even the finest detail is always preserved.

Often I start with a preconceived notion of what I want to communicate through a piece.    [Un]Fortunately, in this collarborative process the piece often decides to develop a life and meaning of its own.  Or should I say, it has decided to reflect what I was really trying to communicate whether I knew it or not.

And then, of course, some are just for fun!

There's a ton of information on the web as to what 'Fractal Art' is so I won't go into it here.  Easiest to just say I create expressive images using a computer.

Here are a couple of excellent links if you're interested.
